As AI skyrockets to new heights and the news evolves rapidly, it's crucial for us, as legal jedis, to stay laser-focused on leveraging AI advancements to benefit our practices, while upholding ethical and moral standards.

Personally, I was surprised to learn that Microsoft allegedly decided to cut its AI Ethics and Society team as part of recent layoffs.

Tech giants like Microsoft must prioritize ethics in AI advancement.

Hm. I have questions:

Will this decision affect AI's ethical trajectory?

Will new measures take its place?

How will this impact the legal industry, if it all?

Only time will tell, but rest assured, I'll be watching closely.

🛠️ Tool of the Week: ChatGPT-4, Your New Workflow Wingman

The AI Tool market is absolutely booming, with new offerings appearing daily. No, more like, hourly.

My goal is to introduce you to a tech tool, even if it’s not law-specific, to help you ease your workload, make more progress towards your goals, and not lose your mind.

How could I not talk about ChatGPT-4 right now?

I've tested it over the past few weeks, and its improved performance has left me in awe. However, I've noticed it's "slowed down" a bit, compared to ChatGPT-3.5. (I’ve been utilizing ChatGPT since about January 2023 to some extent.)

I plan to put it through its paces to verify its accuracy, as its predecessor had its share of flaws. (Stay tuned for my great "how we met" story with ChatGPT, which highlights both its flaws and beauty.)

ChatGPT-4 has made significant strides, allegedly catapulting ChatGPT from the 10th percentile to the 90th percentile on the bar exam (yes, I’ll give you a moment to process that) and improving in many other human exams.

As a tech-savvy individual passionate about AI and its impact on the legal industry, I'm thrilled by the 'steerability' aspect of the model.

Seeing how GPT-4 is far more responsive to being guided (i.e., prompting) is astonishing. (Proper "prompting" is key, and I'm committed to learning and helping others as we continue integrating this tech into our daily lives. Stay tuned.)

That said, I understand the disappointment some have expressed about OpenAI's lack of transparency.

/Nevertheless, ChatGPT-4's advancements are impressive, and we should celebrate them while holding OpenAI accountable for transparency and ensuring Microsoft remains committed to ethical AI.

As for real applicability, I've used ChatGPT-4 to:

• Review letters, requesting grammar checks and overall improvement suggestions;

• Brainstorm a tagline for my company, Advogence;

• Write fun stories in the voice of Taylor Swift-inspired breakup songs;

• Write a 4-week, 6-week and 8-week business plan;

• Outline my first business book; and,

• Distill a lengthy transcript into key points, including the names of the speakers for each key point.

These are just a few of the many use cases.

Don't fear ChatGPT-4.
